Arctic Paper Grycksbo Invests in Four VR Simulators from Åkerströms
Arctic Paper, a producer of high-quality graphic paper and packaging paper with production facilities in Europe, is strengthening safety and training at its Grycksbo mill in Sweden by investing in four VR-based crane simulators from Åkerströms.
By combining advanced VR technology with Åkerströms’ radio remote control systems, operators can train in realistic lifting scenarios—such as precision operation, managing load sway, and working safely around suspended loads—without exposing personnel or equipment to risk.
The simulators offer several training modules, each concluding with a final assessment in which the participant’s performance and areas for improvement are documented. This enables Arctic Paper to both onboard new operators and ensure continuous refresher training with clear follow-up and measurable results.
“VR training provides a safe and engaging learning environment that improves both learning outcomes and safety awareness,” says Magnus Kenger, Business Developer at Åkerströms.
Arctic Paper also sees strong potential for future development:
“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Åkerströms to further develop the simulator with additional functionality. For example, allowing trainees to choose different types of lifting equipment for various lifting operations, as well as training in the inspection and correct use of the lifting gear itself,” says Thomas Lundh, overhead crane training instructor.
The company already has plans to further develop its training programs using VR technology, with the goal of creating even more realistic and effective learning environments for a wider range of professional roles within the organization.
